The ARLIS/NA Twin Cities Chapter held its fall meeting on Monday, November 11, 2007 at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts. Kathy Heuer, chapter president, convened the meeting at 10 am. The meeting began with introductions of all in attendance. The minutes from the spring meeting were approved, as there was no business meeting at the summer event. Kathy thanked Martha Ruddy and Joon Mornes for all their work in organizing the tour of the new Guthrie Theater, held in August 6, 2007. The current balance of the chapter bank account was reported at $787.58. Forms for the dues for 2008 were handed out. Members were asked to mail in their dues to Kristen Mastel. The dues will be unchanged at $15.00 for ARLIS/NA members and $10.00 for non-ARLIS/NA members.
The slate of officers was presented and approved. The officers for 2008 are:
Janice Lurie – Chair
Sarah Quimby – Chair-elect
Kristen Mastel – Secretary/Treasurer
The chapter will again be offering a $200.00 travel award. Kay Streng and Janice Lurie will serve on the committee and process applications. Information about the award process was handed out. The application deadline will be March 3, 2008. Members who are eligible are encouraged to apply.
There was some discussion about the joint ARLIS/NA and VRA Conference to be held in Minneapolis in 2011. The venue and dates have been set. It was discussed and agreed that the members of both organizations should have a meeting in early 2008 to start the planning. Members may also download planning documents from the ARLIS/NA web site.
Members were asked to contact Janice or Sarah with suggestions for meetings for 2008.
Kathy announced some news from ARLIS/NA.
- Chapters may continue to have members who are not paid members of ARLIS/NA. Such members will not be able to hold office or vote, but may attend meetings and serve on committees. No change will be necessary for the Twin Cities Chapter by-laws.
- Members were directed to a web site if anyone was interested in nominating a person for the ARLIS/NA Distinguished Service Award.
- ARLIS/NA is looking into the possibility of offering chapters a way to host chapter web sites. Kathy expressed her gratitude to Rebecca Moss for maintaining a web site for the chapter at the University of Minnesota. If would be preferable, however, if the chapter could have a web site via ARLIS/NA.
Following adjournment, Dorothy Goldie, Executive Director of the Minnesota Center for Books Arts, gave members a tour of the Open Book building. The building is home to Millweed Editions, The Loft Literary Center, Rosalux Gallery, The Minnesota Center for Books Arts, and the Coffee Gallery.
Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Heuer
