Professor Steyaert has taught in the Department of Art History since 1971. He specializes in Gothic art of France and the Lowlands, and he has taught this course since 2000.

Curriculum

We will study Gothic art and architecture in its country of origin, with a special focus on principal monuments in and near Paris. Classes meet four days a week, alternating classroom (with computer lab) lectures with on site study in churches and museums. Full-day visits to the cities of Chartres and Reims form part of the course. Weekends allow additional time for exploration of the city and its environs.

Housing and Meals

Students share furnished apartments with kitchens. Residences are located within walking distance of the study
center and near subway and bus lines(a metro/bus pass valid for the duration of the course is provided). A welcome lunch and a farewell dinner as well as lunch on the two excursion days are provided.
