Art Images for College Teaching (AICT) is a personal, non-profit project of its author, art historian and visual resources curator
Allan T. Kohl
. AICT is intended primarily to disseminate images of art and architectural works in the public domain on a free-access, free-use basis to all levels of the educational community, as well as to the public at large. The images displayed on this site have been photographed on location by the author, who consents to their use in any application that is both educational and non-commercial in nature. While the AICT website was originally constructed and distributed under the general auspices of the Minneapolis College of Art & Design (MCAD), this institution is not responsible for site content or use thereof. The AICT website is currently hosted by the Department of Art History at the University of Minnesota, which is likewise not responsible for site content or use thereof. AICT is not funded by either institution, or by any external granting organization; all work on this project, along with use of the content, has been contributed pro bono. The AICT website's emphasis on ancient, medieval, and Renaissance European art and architecture reflects the author's research and teaching interests. While I have also included a number of noteworthy examples of post-Renaissance and "non-Western" works which I have had opportunity to view and photograph, any imbalance in coverage among the various historical periods and geographic regions is not intended as a value judgment on the relative significance of these cultures. Copyright restrictions prevent my inclusion in this project of most twentieth century works. Because Art Images for College Teaching cannot therefore provide comprehensive coverage, I have tried to make it easy for users to acquire individual AICT images to integrate with their other resources. |

This website contains only selected excerpts from extensive image collections available on Kodak Photo-CDs, which institutions and individual educators
may arrange to borrow for review and downloading of large numbers of images. There is no cost to the user, other than return postage (although if you are able to provide a shipping service account number for us to use in our outbound shipments to you, this is surely appreciated!). There is no licensing fee required for your non-commercial, educational use of AICT images.
Individuals owning the rights to original images of scholarly interest are encouraged to make these available to the wider academic community through similar image-sharing projects and consortia. While as the author of this site I would like to encourage others to share their original image resources for educational purposes, I have decided to include in the AICT project only those images which I have personally photographed, so that I can with confidence provide my users full assurance that there are no legal encumbrances on the free-usage rights I have granted herein. Several consortial projects under development will offer contributors appropriate ways to donate the use of their images, and I would be glad to provide information concerning these: please contact me at the address listed above. |
